Of all the causes of prematurity, the easiest to address is the prevalence of elective inductions and c-sections. The number of inductions in the US has more than doubled in the last twenty years!
Babies born by way of induction and/or scheduled c-section are between 34 and 36 weeks, placing them at greater risk for infection, extended hospital stays, and even death. Inductions are also more likely to require a c-section, a major surgery that carries its own risks for both mom & baby.
As long as your pregnancy is healthy and progressing normally, 39 is the magic number–your baby is worth the wait!
