Preventing Prematurity: The March of Dimes

Founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938, the March of Dimes has been at the forefront of the movement to ensure the very best outcomes for babies. They launched their Prematurity Campaign in 2003 to raise awareness about preterm birth and explore ways to reduce the number of babies born too soon.

In 2012 the March of Dimes raised $219 Million, and 75.8% of that was spent on program services:

37.9% on Public and Professional Education

24.1% on Community Services

13.8% on Research and Medical Support

Much of the work of furthering the March of Dimes mission is done by volunteers–only 10.3% of their annual budget is spent on Management & General Expenses!
