While celebrities like Halle Berry and Kelly Preston have healthy babies well into their 40s, its no secret that pregnancy after 35 can be tricky business. Over-35 mommies are at increased risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, birth defects and delivering prematurely. Since we’re born with all the eggs we’re ever gonna get, infertility is also a concern for more mature moms. The good news is that many causes of infertility can be treated.
Most physicians recommend prenatal screening tests for women over 35, but beyond that the same rules apply for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby:
1. Take folic acid daily.
2. Exercise & eat right.
3. Don’t smoke!
4. Get prenatal care early.
5. Manage chronic health conditions for conceiving.
